Muscat by Manatawny Creek Winery
The D-2010 Scale
Muscat by Manatawny Creek Winery (Pennsylvania, U.S.)
Appearance (10 points possible): straw yellow color, slightly viscous, and clear - 10 points
Aroma/Bouquet (20 points possible): Orange peel, Gardenias, strong apricot pie aroma. - 17 points
Taste (10 points possible): Medium-bodied and smooth, probably due to its viscosity (thickness/body). It is very creamy and apricot tasting. The finish lingers with sweet, nutty and vanilla notes. - 8 points
Balance (5 points possible): It's really surprising that this wine is only 12% alcohol. Based on the thick dessert-style of this wine, I would've thought it would be higher alcohol. But the 12% matches well with the sweetness, acidity, and mouthfeel. - 5 points
Finish (5 points possible): Smooth and lingering with flavors of nuttiness, apricots, and vanilla. - 5 points
Packaging *Introduction to the D-2010 Scale*
Quality of Package (5 points possible): Beautiful 375 mL (half-sized) blue bottle and feminine label. - 5 points
Label Marketability (10 points possible): I like the label on this bottle. It goes well with the blue bottle. But it may be difficult to spot in a mix of many labels. - 7 points
Other (5 points possible): There's no extras on this bottle! - 3 points
Total Points: 90 points
Overall Thought: I like this sweeter wine. It's a dessert style - fruit forward, apricoty and creamy, which is really enjoyable as a dessert.
Food Pairings: I loved this wine with vanilla ice cream. It was a great wine to match with dessert as a follow-up to the main course. But I think this would also taste really good with a fruit tart. Also would probably pair well with some creamy cheese like brie.
Cost: I actually don't know the cost, but I can update when I find out!
Splurge Factor (out of 4): 1 - I'm going to say that it's really not out of the budget. :)
Where to buy: Check out Manatawny Creek's website for more information and future purchasing!
Denise - thanks for the kind words. The price, incidentally, is $12.95 plus tax. I like to think of this muscat as a substitute for the very much more expensive ice wines!
