A Re-Cap of the Wines from the PWS Wine Excellence X Tasting - Part 3

The last of the PWS Wine Excellence tasting... we'll count this as a good substitute for "What's in my glass Wednesday..."

2010 Cabernet Franc by Vynecrest Winery
Very strong oak flavors on this Cab Franc - toasty and jammy berry notes with prevalent alcohol.  The oak and alcohol contributes to a sweeter finish that is generally very pleasing among consumers.  This is the wine that I would say is most similar to those $10 - $20 Cabs that you can buy from California.

2010 Chambourcin by Vynecrest Winery
This wine was actually the winner of the PA Wine Excellence X tasting.  Congratulations to Vynecrest.  Fruit forward, jammy, hints of nutmeg and cinnamon, with a toasty undertone.  Medium bodied with a similar sweet finish like their Cabernet Franc.  As I mentioned at the tasting, this is the perfect table wine.  I see this wine red pastas, pizza, and bar-b-q.  For more information on these wines, please visit Vynecrest Vineyards and Winery.

Jan and John Landis - PWS Wine Excellence X Winners from Vynecrest Vineyards and Winery

2007 Cabernet Sauvignon by Manatawny Creek Winery
Lots of candied fruit in this Cabernet Sauvignon with some subdued herbal characteristics.  Soft on the palate and quite delicate.  Some very strong oak attributes in the finish.

2008 Syrah by Manatawny Creek Winery
Perhaps you remember this wine?  I've reviewed it before... in a local meal review.  I really like Syrah, and this wine didn't disappoint.  It was a bit dirty - like old-world Syrah with strong black pepper flavors, rose, and oaky.  Very smooth and very likable.  A must-have red wine!

I hope next year I'll see more of you in Harrisburg (PA) at this tasting!  It sure is a fun event that you don't want to miss out on.  :)  See you in 2013!!
